The Southeast Memphis CDC, which serves the greater Hickory Hill community, has named Olliette Murry-Drobot as chief executive officer and Alan Gumbel to the position of chief administrative officer. Olliette comes to her position with a diverse community development background, and Alan has a number of years of experience consulting nationally for HUD-funded and other economic development projects. Their combined experience will also the CDC to move forward with its collaborative community safety and youth initiatives,
where SMCDC is the lead community organization in partnership with the Memphis
Police Department’s Safeways Initiative and the City of Memphis JustCare 180
early intervention program for at-risk
youth. Safeways also partners with Ledic Asset Management to incubate
comprehensive site-based resident services in lower income apartment complexes,
where the CDC is developing a technical assistance strategy to replicate the
site-based outreach in other apartment complexes across the city. The CDC is
also organizing a business association to link retail and commercial enterprise
with community safety initiatives. Other CDC programs include working with
families faced with foreclosure and a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to
recycle foreclosed properties for homeownership in Hickory Hill and other
